The Celts worshipped nature and believed in the spirit world. They worship over 300 Gods and believed that at the end of summer, Samhain- the lord of death, becomes powerful and overpowers the Sun god. As per the belief, Samhain assembles all the evil spirits and allows them to return home and pay a visit to the living on October 31. As an ancient tradition, after harvest, Druids (Celtic priests) would meet under an oak grove or near large stone circles every 31st of October to make sacrifices. They lit up a bonfire, welcoming the spirits back to the world of the living, and made sacrifices like burning crops and animals as an offering to God. They would embrace the visit of their loved ones and celebrate it. Children played games with the dead, while adults would have conversations with them.
