Gladiolus is the birth month flower of August, which symbolises integrity, strength and infatuation. It is a genus of about 260 species, native to Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean area. The flower derived its name from the Latin word ‘Gladiolus’ which means sword, given to its sword-shaped leaves. The flowers feature tall, dramatic stalks of brightly coloured funnel-shaped blossoms.  Gladiolus is found in various colours like pink, red, white, yellow, orange, purple, and even green. The meaning of gladiolus varies by colour.
