Earth Day 2020 is on April 22nd, which marks the 50th anniversary of this day. It is an annual event celebrated to raise awareness about the earth and problems related to it. The theme for Earth Day 2020 is climate action. Climate change is the biggest prevalent issue around the world. It is a challenge to the present & future of humanity & the life-support system that makes our earth suitable enough to live.  Listed below are ways to celebrate Earth Day 2020 at home (as you can’t step out due to COVID-19 lockdown) and help the Mother Earth heal.

Don’t waste the water

Use water wisely while washing and cleaning. Do not let the tap running and shut off the faucet when scrubbing with soap or brushing your teeth. It will help you conserve a lot of water.

Unplug electronic devices when not in use

All the household appliances and electronic gadgets plugged in are wasting energy even when they’re not turned on. Unplug the juicer or mixer when not using them. Turn off the fan, AC or lights when you leave the room. Unplug the mobile phones, laptops, and other electronic gadgets after charging.

Buy eco-friendly products

Buying eco-friendly products instead of single-use or disposable items is a healthy choice. As the eco-friendly products are reusable and sustainably sourced, they put less burden on Mother Earth and help keep it clean and safe.

Stop using plastic water bottles

Plastic pollution poses a threat to plants, animals, and humans. The chlorinated plastic releases harmful chemicals into the soil that seep into groundwater and affect the ecosystem. Avoid drinking out of plastic water bottles. Use glass or stainless steel water bottles. Ditch the plastic straws. Instead, use the straws made from stainless steel or bamboo.

Collect Rainwater

Harvesting rainwater can help the environment in several ways. It reduces flooding and erosion, helps save on water bills, and can be used for non-drinking purposes like cleaning or watering plants.

Take the stairs instead of the elevator

Taking stairs will cut down the energy required to power the elevators or escalators. Also, it is a great workout that helps increase your stamina and keeps you fit.

Go Green

That doesn’t necessarily mean to fill the house with green plants. Although it is not a bad option. Make little changes, like buying energy-efficient light bulbs or LED lights. It will help decrease your carbon footprint and even save you money in the long run.

Go Paperless

Pay your bills online. Getting bank statements and credit card bills online will allow you to save paper. You can also try doing the same with travel tickets and official documents.  It is easy to include these healthy ways in your routine and make this earth a better place to live.
