Among the Chinese and Vietnamese people, there is a tradition of a get-together on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar which is a full moon. People gather to thank Nature for a good harvest season and pray for conceptual and material satisfaction. This year it will be celebrated on 10th September.

When Is the Mid-Autumn Festival?

Mid-Autumn Festival is known by other names like Moon Festival, Harvest Moon Festival, Lantern Festival, Reunion Festival, & Children's Festival. It is one of the most colourful Chinese traditional festivals which sees lantern shows & processions, and of course the mooncakes and exchange of Mid Autumn gifts. This festival is celebrated to mark an end to the autumn harvest season and thank the almighty for a flourishing time. It is also noticed that during this festival, the moon is generally at is the brightest beauty.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most popular festivals in Singapore and it belongs to the Chinese heritage. It is not announced as a public holiday, but all the malls, shops, and streets are decorated beautifully and special food are served aat this time of the year. As said earlier this festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar – that generally corresponds to late September to early October of the Gregorian calendar.
