Water : It is important to prevent the plant from getting too dry or wilting between watering. Unless the mum is in a very sunny and hot location, watering the plant well, once a day, should be sufficient. When watering, instead of pouring water through the dense flowers, water the plant's soil.
Temperature : Mums are cold hardy to about 10 degrees Calsius. They can survive hot temperatures from 32 to 37 degree Celsius, but they'll need plenty of water and a little shade.
Light : Chrysanthemums are sun-loving plants. Although they technically require only 6 hours of sunlight each day, the more light they receive, the better their growth, bloom and hardiness. Slight shade in hot, summer afternoons is appropriate in warmer gardening zones to prevent scorching.
Fertilizing : It is important to provide nitrogen and potassium to chrysanthemums during their vegetative phase. Feed the plants before flower buds form to promote healthy roots, bud development and a vigorous plant. Chrysanthemum plants should be fertilized at each watering at a rate of 250-300 ppm using a complete fertilizer such as 20-10-20.
Chrysanthemum plants are herbaceous perennial plants or subshrubs. They have alternately arranged leaves divided into leaflets with toothed or occasionally smooth edges. The compound inflorescence is an array of several flower heads, or sometimes a solitary head.
